THIS WEEK’S FICTION

Flash Fiction

Noteworthy was the (very) short story Rescue from The Dark Netizen. A humorous excursion of misbegotten Don Juanism.

Short Stories

Give Was Her Resting? from Terror House Magazine a read, echoes of Reynolds Price.

“Well, ain’t that sweet? Old fool and his doggie.”

The voice came from behind him, and Bud jumped and turned. Standing right behind him was a a pale, cadaverous young man with a tuft of hair on his chin and large metal discs in his earlobes. He was wearing a filthy T-shirt and the rank odor of his body struck Bud like a fist. Behind the young man was an even younger black man, dressed all in black and wearing a knitted skullcap on his close-cropped hair. Both of them were sneering at Bud, and both of them had glittering, crazed eyes. The one closest to Bud lifted a pistol and…

Having Chronic Fatigue, ME, Fibromyalgia etc, commonly co-occurs with severe PTSD/Complex PTSD.

Oh, this makes sense. Nevertheless, there are also higher occurrences of autoimmune diseases.

Healing From Complex Trauma & PTSD/CPTSD

The above is from http://www.post-traumata.com/post-traumatic-stress-ptsd-tiredness-fatigue.html

I have many the symptoms of Chronic Fatigue and I am aware it is all part of the bigger umbrella of having Complex PTSD.

It makes sense after decades of trauma, anxiety, an overworked adrenaline system, prolonged fear from young childhood onwards … and the affect on the body, as well as the brain…… that fatigue and many other physical illness will be a part of the effects.

I see clearly the impact of being in a continual state of trauma and survival, has upon a body. And obviously the longer the body and mind have been exposed to trauma and it’s affects, the greater the likelihood of physical illness occurring.

So in my situation, it would be odd if I didn’t have physical illness co-occurring.

MARCH’S ZEROFLASH WRITING COMPETITION

Zeroflash

At the Mountains of Madness - HP Lovecraft - http://r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=A2KLj.vNHY1aRmAAU4H.3olQ;_ylu=X3oDMTBtdXBkbHJyBHNlYwNmcC1hdHRyaWIEc2xrA3J1cmw-/RV=2/RE=1519226445/RO=11/RU=http%3a%2f%2ftempleofghoul.blogspot.com%2f2010%2f08%2fat-mountains-of-madness-script-review.html/RK=2/RS=vNFv0U0jhdfSMS_srNRt8FcA9C0-

This month’s competition is one close to my heart.

At the Mountains of Madness, by H.P.Lovecraft (the same story that we based the logo on this month).

I read and re-read this book a number of times and it led to my own writing taking something of a dark and sinister, un-Godly slant. I even wrote and filmed a (bad) short story based on Lovecraft’s tale.

So this month, I’m asking for your darkest, other-worldly tales. Set them in the farthest and most remote of locales. Create full and thoughtful characters. Write dialogue that forces the reader to think and contemplate their existence.

…and do it all in 300 words!

Just the one submission each per person, please.

300 words, maximum.

Deadline is Midnight GMT on the final day of the month.

Please allow Zeroflash the first opportunity to publish your work. Once the competition is over…

THE DEMIURGE

THE STORY HIVE

“Oh, right. Love isn’t the answer. It’s the problem.”  Æon Flux

“Light in the absence of eyes illuminates nothing. Visible forms are not inherent in the world, but are granted by the act of seeing. Though the world and events do exist independent of mind, they obtain of no meaning in themselves- none that the mind is not guilty of imposing on them. I bid my people follow and, like all good equations, they follow…”Trevor Goodchild

“Half of eternity is still eternity. Infinity and Zero are different degrees of the same value. Pain isn’t real beyond the individual who feels it.”Trevor Goodchild

Moonlight Market

Moonlight Market

THE STORY HIVE

Today I got a squishy cargo. A six feet tall sack of white saggy meat. If you’re curious, it’s a human. A human for tonight’s Moonlight Market, an astrologer and seer. A rare offer for the market, really. It’s more of a custom request, than anything else. I’m going to cash up nicely.

My name’s Vespa. I may not look like it, but I’m far older than you may suspect. Since I’m part-part, my body obeys different laws. Today, some idiot calls me a twelve year old saucy bitch. No one calls me that, or anything else. Luckily, I don’t need more than fifteen seconds to cast a nasty curse. Don’t be surprised if you meet a five feet tall rat in Central Park.

Ah, magic! You gotta love it! It’s a big improvement, since it’s allowed to cross the borders. Stretching and bending the frame-laws of one world to its benefit, makes…
